JERAKI BAY / PLACE / PELOPONNESE

Messinia, beyond the postcard.

An extraordinary coastline is only part of the story. The southern Peloponnese remains a place of working villages, olive groves and a way of life built around the seasons.

The southern Peloponnese

Koroni sits between the Messinian Gulf and the olive-growing landscape of the peninsula. A historic castle, a working harbour and everyday life in the town are as much a part of its character as the beaches.

Local food, village markets, small producers and family-run tavernas remain central to the region. The Mediterranean diet is recognised by UNESCO as living heritage, with Koroni among its emblematic communities.

A region gaining attention

Costa Navarino has raised Messinia's international profile with golf and hospitality destinations, including W Costa Navarino and Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. Kalamata International Airport connects the region to European markets, with development plans announced for its infrastructure.

Greater visibility brings opportunity, but also a responsibility to build selectively. We do not assume that tourism growth automatically translates into property returns.

What makes this place worth protecting

Clear swimming water, coastal habitats, olive groves and the relative openness of the landscape are not incidental amenities. They are the region's foundation.

Loggerhead sea turtles nest along parts of the Messinian coast. In sensitive locations, exterior light, access paths and development activity require particular attention.
